MPCP is happy to announce an exciting development in providing two evaluated online 8-week mindfulness courses for adoptive parents in the Adoption West Consortium. ‘Caring for Me, Caring for You’ is our first online course for adopters with children in placement pre and post adoption order and will be informed by our experience delivering our ‘face to face’ course for adopters in 2017.
The two courses will take place through the summer and winter of 2020 and have been made possible through Covid 19 Adoption Support funding, a grant from Oxford Mindfulness Centre and financial support from Adoption West. Adoptive parents are caring for children from public care with very high levels of physical and emotional need which, in many cases, extend into adulthood. And now, adoptive families are facing the added challenges and uncertainties of Covid 19. We are, therefore, delighted to be working with Adoption West to explore how mindfulness courses delivered on-line can support adoptive parents, wherever they live, in these difficult most difficult circumstances.
Our next MBSR course starts on the 26th February 2020 and will run for nine weeks (including and orientation session) with a retreat day included in the price of the course.
The dates for this course are:
Wednesday 26th February - 20th May 2020 (no sessions on 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd April). The course will also run at the Central Quaker Meeting House from 6.30 - 9pm. The cost for the course is £250 (waged) and £200 (unwaged) with a deposit of £50 required to secure your booking. You can pay for the course in instalments of £50/£20 if you prefer. This cost includes the taster sessions, the 9 sessions and the retreat day as well as handouts and recorded practices to keep. You can request a FREE pre course orientation phone call here and book online for the course itself.
Our Mindfulness for Parents and Carers Course will run from from 20th April until 29th June 2021 (term time only). The time of the sessions will be Tuesdays 6.30 - 9pm.

Stressbusting for Parents is a grant funded course that runs for 10 weeks. We are running a series of these across Primary Schools in more deprived areas of Bristol. Our next course will take place in Kings Weston for parents of children with special needs. Email us if you would like to join this course.
The aim of this course is to:
Look at how to manage the stress and frustration that comes from life as a parent. This course supports parents to notice stressful situations and learn mindfulness-based techniques to respond calmly to children.
When life gets tough, relationships with our children can be a source of additional worry and anxiety. We sometimes feel we do not have the resources or time to respond to them in the way that we would wish.
Mindfulness for Parents will support you in your role as a parent.
It will help you to:
Feel more confident about being a parent
Manage how stress and frustration affects you during difficult moments
Recognise and manage difficult / strong / uncomfortable emotions
Help you to talk with, and listen to your children
Strengthen the parent/child bond and improve your communication
